39 Replacement vehicles

The transfer of the license plates of one motor vehicle to a replacement vehicle, requires prior authorization from the relevant authority.

Authorization to use the replacement vehicle is granted only if:

a. The vehicle identification card of the original vehicle is deposited with the authority.
b. A vehicle traveling with Swiss license plates is not suitable for use due to damage, repair, re-build etc.
c. The replacement vehicle is operationally safe.

The permit is limited to a maximum of 30 days.

40 Trailers

Motor vehicles and their trailers may only be placed on the market with a vehicle ID and license plates. The trailer's operating weight must not exceed the towed load specified in the vehicle's registration document.

The maximum speed for motor vehicles category B with trailer is 100 km/h, if the trailer with load does not exceed 3.5 tons. Otherwise 80 km/h.
