Driving Rules

Rule of thumb - On dry roads

Braking distance = 0.75 x Speed in km/h x Speed in km/h
100

Example: Braking distance at a speed of 80 km/h.

Calculation: 0.75 x 80 x 80 : 100 = 48 m

Example 2: Braking distance at a speed of 40 km/h.

Calculation: 0.75 x 40 x 40 : 100 = 12 m

In the case of vehicles without ABS (anti-lock braking system), there is a risk that the wheels will lock when braking (for example, full braking), in particular on wet or icy roads. This reduces the steerability of the vehicle. In order for the vehicle to be steered again, release the brake and engage the brake carefully.
