19 Reaction distance The reaction distance is the distance traveled by the vehicle from the time when the danger is detected until the brakes are applied. The reaction time is about 1 second. In case of readiness for breaking, the reaction time is substantially shorter. Rule of thumb
Example: Reaction distance at a speed of 80 km/h. Calculation: 3 x 80 : 10 = 24 m Example 2: Reaction distance at a speed of 50 km/h. Calculation: 3 x 50 : 10 = 15 m
