7 Rules for motorcyclists and moped riders Motorcyclists must not ride side-by-side. Exception: Unless the rest of the traffic is impacted, side-by-side is permitted in a closed group of more than ten motorcycles. Also allowed is side-by-side on cycling paths, in meeting areas (signal 259.5) and on signposted cycling trails on side roads. Motorcyclists are not allowed to drive next to each other or beside bicycles or motorbikes. When the traffic is stopped, the motorcyclists have to keep their place in the row of vehicles. If sufficient free space is available, moped riders may drive past a row of vehicles, on the right, slalom like overtaking is prohibited. Moped riders must not hinder the continuation of the traffic and place themselves in front of the car. On motorcycles, the passenger has to sit astride and must be able to use footboards or foot rests. A child under seven years of age, is allowed to be carried only on an officially approved child seat. In a motorcycles side car only as many persons may be carried, as places are approved. No persons may be carried on motorcycle trailers. Motorcyclists over 16 years of age are allowed to carry a child under 7 years on a safe child seat. The seat must protect the child's legs and not hinder the driver. Paths that are not suitable for motor vehicle traffic or are obviously not intended for such purposes, for example, walking and hiking trails, must not be used for such vehicles. The footpath is reserved for pedestrians, the cycle track for cyclists/moped riders.
